Tip Top Coaching Tip of the week
| How To Perform a Push Pass |
|
The most basic type of pass and the first that you should become comfortable with is the push pass.
As you approach the ball, face the target with shoulders square.
Plant your balance foot beside the ball with the knee bent and toes pointed toward the target.
Position the passing foot square to the target with toes pointed slightly up and away from the midline of your body.
Contact the centre of the ball with the inside surface of your foot.
Keep the ankle locked and foot firmly positioned.
Follow through with short, powerful kicking motion. |
| How To Take A Penalty |
|
Penalties needn't be nerve racking if your follow this tip.
Make your decision as to which side of the keeper you plan to send the ball BEFORE your strike.
This will automatically remove one one of the main reasons for a failed penalty - indecision on the part of the penalty taker.
Keep your eyes squarely focused on the ball.
If aiming left of the keeper, use the inside toe area of your kicking foot.
Use the outside area of your kicking foot to send it right.

| How To Chest |
|
Controlling a ball at high speed and at pace can be potentially awkward experience.
The most important thing when chesting a ball is to firmly flex your upper body tight just before and during impact.
This will ensure the speed of the ball is reduced and minimal pain occurs to your chest.
Keep your eyes on the ball throughout and your arms outstretched for balance. |
| How to clear the ball |
|
As a defender, there is a time to pass and a time to clear the ball from danger.
As a general rule, always aim for the sidelines as far up field as possible.
Lock onto the ball, make a short sharp run, eyes focused and follow through.
Aim to generate height by getting your foot under the ball.
Your clearance should always be high and long, never short and flat. |
| How To Pass a Through Ball |
|
This tip requires passing the ball with a lot more force then normal.
While your judgement and vision are crucial to ensuring the pass will land at the feet of the desired player, just as important is the strength the ball is hit with.
Take two steps, keep your arms outstretched for balance, head down and follow through with the inside arch of your kicking foot.
This will ensure you generate enough pace to split the defence and find the feet of your striker. |
|
| How To Beat An Opponent |
|
This skill requires running at an opponent and using the outside of your kcicking foot to beat your man.
Approach the opposing player, dipping your left shoulder and transferring weight to your left leg.
This will give the opposition the impression you wish to run the ball in that direction.
Upon seeing the opposition move in the wrong direction, push off your left leg and kick the ball forward with the outside of your right foot.
You and the ball should now be well away from trouble. |
